Are you rankings moving up the organic results?
The first KPI for any SEO campaign needs to be rankings, measuring rankings on a monthly bases give your SEO campaign time to mature, checking daily will not see much change, set down a monthly date to check your movement in the Google rankings.
That all sounds good but you need to make sure that each phrase you are targeting has good traffic, so start by doing keyword research.
Is your Traffic increasing for your targeted phrases?
Using Google analytics to make sure your traffic is increasing for your chosen terms is important but you also need to check your longer tail traffic growth, most SEO campaigns will show no real top level results for over 6 months but you will be able to see movement by the amount of phrases you are being found for each month is rising.
Traffic is of course the most important point of having a website but not if the traffic is rubbish, make sure your campaigns traffic is quality by measuring your Goals and conversions, there is no point getting lots of visitors but still not making any money.
Checking your traffic volume weekly will show if your site is gaining more long tail traffic and help you see if your campaign in succeeding. Make sure you check all the factors like amount of visitors, unique visitors, bounce rates, page views and on-site time spent viewing your page, this should give you a good indicator on the quality of your traffic.
Branded traffic volume
Is your branded traffic volume growing? Once your site has been seen by more visitors you should expect an increase in branded visitors, keep an eye on your brand growth will give you a good indicator of how much your brand awareness is growing.
Return of investment
As with any campaign you will want to see a return of investment as quick as possible however SEO is not a quick fix marketing strategy and should never be view as such, most campaigns will not provide results for over 6 months but after this the return of investment is in a constant growth state.
